Sustainable Products
Product
We have a responsibility to our planet, to each other. Yes, we make clothes. But we want to make clothes that last, are great quality, and made in the most ethical, responsible way possible. Responsible fabrics and processes aren’t a nice-to-have when we’re planning our collections. They are the first thing we think about, and our teams are constantly innovating to try and do better.
In the last 12 months
- 68% of the polyester for our polyester products is now from recycled sources.
- 57% of the viscose for our viscose products is now from LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose.
- 43% of the leather for our leather products now comes from Leather Working Group tanneries.
Fabrics
We’re committed to sourcing and selecting the right fabrics that will not only make the best products for you, but also limit our impact on the planet and our people. From responsibly sourced cotton to biodegradable wood pulps and hemp, discover more about what your FatFace clothes are made of and how we’re continuing to reinvent, reuse and reconsider. Read on below to find out why these raw materials are better than conventional alternatives.
Caring about Cotton
100% of the cotton for our cotton products is more responsibly sourced.
Organic Cotton
The production of organic cotton sustains the health of soils, ecosystems, and people by using natural processes rather than artificial inputs. We use the Organic Content Standard (OCS) which verifies organically grown material and tracks it from source to final product.
FatFace is certified by the Organic Content Standard ensuring our Organic cotton is produced to organic agricultural standards, which require practices to sustain ecosystems.
Better Cotton
We have been a proud member of the Better Cotton Initiative since 2016, and this partnership is one of the reasons we can say 100% of our cotton is responsibly sourced.
So is your latest purchase made from Better Cotton? Not exactly... Better Cotton is sourced via a chain of custody model called mass balance.
This means that Better Cotton is not physically traceable to end products, however, Better Cotton Farmers benefit from the demand for Better Cotton in equivalent volumes to those we ‘source’.
-
Better Cotton is only licensed by BCI farmers
-
Investing & Improving
Investing in Better Cotton directly contributes to the training of more farmers, increasing the demand for Better Cotton, allowing more Better Cotton to be sourced and more farmers to be trained.
-
Throughout The Supply Chain Better Cotton Will Mix With Conventional Cotton
Making it tricky to track down how much BCI cotton is in these products exactly.

Good News
We class this as being sourced more responsibly, through our sourcing of Better Cotton, we invest in the training of Better Cotton farmers. Improving the farming practices of over 2.4 million cotton farmers in 23 countries worldwide.
Wood you believe it?
We’re using more cellulose, plant and wood based fibers in our clothing that we can ensure are sourced from responsibly managed forests and with lower impact production processes.
TENCEL™, LENZING™ and ECOVERO™ are trademarks of Lenzing AG.LENZING™ ECOVERO™
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose fibers are derived from sustainable wood and pulp, coming from certified and controlled sources.
This results in up to 50% lower emissions and water impact compared to generic viscose.
TENCEL™ Modal
TENCEL™ Modal fibers are mainly manufactured from the renewable raw material beech wood, sourced from sustainable forests in Austria and neighbouring countries.
The fibers are biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil, fresh water and marine conditions, thus they can fully revert back to nature.
The fibers naturally manage the transportation of moisture, enhancing fabrics by keeping your skin feeling pleasantly comfortable.
TENCEL™ Lyocell
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are derived from sustainable wood sources in responsibly managed forests.
Biodegradable and compostable under industrial, home, soil, fresh water and marine conditions, they can fully revert to nature.
The fibers absorb moisture more efficiently than cotton. This supports the body’s natural thermal regulating mechanism, keeping your skin feeling cool and dry throughout the day and night.
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are naturally smooth to the touch and enhance the quality of fabrics to glide lightly over your skin, also creating a smooth drape, for a flattering appearance. To look good and feel good!
Doing Denim Differently

Recycled Polyester
Our recycled polyester pieces help to reduce CO2 emissions because they need less water and energy to create. Our recycled polyester is derived from post-consumer and pre-consumer waste, diverting plastic waste away from landfill and waterways and into styles you love to wear. Plastic bottles? Yes, and other waste we generate every day.
We use the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) and Global Recycled Standard (GRS) to ensure we can verify recycled material and track it from the source to the final product. By 2025 we’re aiming to make all the polyester that we use to be from recycled sources.
All Natural
Hemp
Hemp is nature’s purifier and one of the most efficient crops for capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. For every tonne of hemp produced, 1.63 tonnes of carbon are removed from the atmosphere. It grows densely, therefore reducing the need for harsh herbicides and pesticides. It’s breathable, biodegradable and long lasting too.
Linen
Mix style and strength with our 100% natural linen and linen blend styles that are designed to last. Made with less water during production (and therefore less environmental impact), our linen may be breathable and light but it is also super strong and durable for many years to come.
European Flax Linen
European Flax® guarantees the traceability for premium flax fiber grown in Western Europe. A vegetal and sustainable fiber, cultivated without artificial irrigation* and GMO free. European Flax is super respectful to the environment, is produced in compliance with International Labour Organization rules, and is a 100% vegetal and vegan fiber. Why do we love it? Not only is it respectful to our planet, it’s so comfortable and great for regulating temperatures.
*Except under exceptional circumstances today, tomorrow to be evaluated according to climate change.Love of Leather
Why leather? Its long-lasting nature and ability to age in quality and beauty keeps this material in our collections. We’re committed to supporting responsible leather manufacturing across the globe and that is why we’re proud members of Leather Working Group (LWG).
