Return of the Mac

January 29, 2019

This season’s collection is all about a new opportunity, new mindset, ethos and inspiration. It not only looks great, but it feels great and has been crafted with care. So, what better time than now to introduce our beautiful Trench Coat. We’re pretty excited about it, so we grabbed Senior Womenswear Designer Jo, who’s the brains behind this season’s must-have Trench Coat, for a chat about how it all came together.

THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE COAT

“There’s a trend for things looking smarter at the moment, and this Trench Coat makes whatever you’re wearing look neat and clean. Shaping around the waist is really popular too. Put the coat on and tie it around the back and you’ll get a great ‘nipped in’ silhouette. Colour is also key – neutral colours are really in right now so we went for this natural stone colour, which is a warmer, brighter version of brown.”

CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT WHAT MAKES IT SO SPECIAL?

“We’ve added a traditional storm flap so that when it rains, the water drips down off the garment — keeping you dry. It’s also Teflon coated, so the rain will simply bead and drip off. We really thought hard about the design, so we made it double breasted so you can wrap it around the front on chilly days. The buttons underneath will hold it in place.

There are loads of little design features too; cuff straps, an eyelet stitch hole for the strap, multi stitch details on the belt… This just gives it those lovely finishing touches you’ll love. We added a collar stand too, which is great because it makes the collar stand up on the neck, keeping the wind off you.”

ANY STYLE TIPS?

“I’m a lot shorter than the average coat-wearer so I always roll my cuffs back for a good fit. I’d recommend lifting the collar a little bit too – this will keep you warmer and cosier. If you’re taking your coat on and off all the time then I’d tie the belt around the back so it’s easier to wear. And I’d nip in the waist if you want to create more shape.”
